Our verdict
We'd recommend Santiburi to families. The staff were friendly and accommodating throughout: when our daughter didn't want to sleep on the sofa bed, they changed her bed, and they gave her a Santiburi teddy, which was a lovely touch.
For play, there was plenty of choice: the kids' club, the pool, the beach, and our villa had room to play in as well.
For parents, the relaxed feel of the place is what made it for us. It's calm and unhurried, and it gave us proper family time. The gym and running track were a bonus too, and the track matters because safe places to run are hard to find on Koh Samui. The food was excellent at every meal, and breakfast had a really good variety.
It's less suited to anyone who wants a party on their doorstep. This is a place for true relaxation and family time, in Maenam on the north coast.
At a glance
Stayed in: a Grand Reserve Pool Villa, in The Reserve
Best for: families who want space to spread out
The trade-off: location. Santiburi is a short drive from the busier north and east. Fisherman's Village is a short drive and Chaweng is further. That distance is part of why it feels calm and spacious.
Who it's for
Santiburi suits families who want space to spread out: big grounds, a huge circular pool that never feels crowded, and enough going on, free and paid, that no one needs to leave the property.
The range covers complimentary watersports sessions and a well-run kids' club through to a proper fitness centre, tennis, football and golf.
It works whether you're after an active week or a lazy one by the pool, both are properly catered for here. Maenam's location means you're never far from the rest of the island either.
Facilities and activities
For the kids
Panya & Yim's Junior Camp runs daily, 9am-12pm and 1pm-6pm. The outdoor area is shaded naturally by trees, with a trampoline, a climbing ramp, a sandpit, and a herb garden right next door.
Indoors there's a playroom with a reading corner and a craft area.
The weekly activity schedule mixes included and paid sessions, among them a kids' cooking class, and babysitting is available separately on request. Down on the beach, buckets and spades are set out for building sandcastles.
For the parents
The Vitality fitness centre is the standout, proper Technogym equipment, a Muay Thai ring, and a full class schedule running most days, yoga, circuit training, strength, mobility.
A 1.2km jogging trail loops through the grounds, with a short stretch along the beach, a rare find given how few of Samui's roads suit running.
Santiburi Spa, a Luxury Lifestyle Awards Top 100 winner in 2025, is the pick for anyone after something slower, Thai massage and treatments built around Moringa Project skincare.
For the family
The main pool is arguably one of the largest on the island, with a separate, shallower pool for younger kids alongside it, and sunbeds spaced well apart, room to actually breathe rather than shoulder to shoulder.
The beach looks straight across to Koh Phangan, it's wide and again families have plenty of room to breathe.
There's also a tennis court, a football pitch, a watersports centre running complimentary windsurfing, sailing and stand-up paddleboarding sessions through the week (small groups, max 4 people), and an 18-hole golf course about 10 minutes away, all easy enough to use together regardless of your children's ages.
Bikes can also be rented for 300 THB a day.

Food
Several places to eat across the property mean dinner doesn't mean the same restaurant every night:
- Sala Thai for refined Thai cuisine built around locally-sourced ingredients
- The Beach House for seaside dining and guest-chef events
- The Pool House for something more casual by day
- 1933 Bar for drinks
For something more private, there's also the option of a private dinner set up right on Mae Nam Beach.
Breakfast is at Vimarnmek, a proper buffet, egg station, noodle station, waffle station, fruit, pastries, and a cruffin worth getting up for.
Evening programming varies, a beach fire show and a guest-chef Malaysian menu were both running during this visit, the kind of thing that changes week to week rather than a fixed nightly event.

Rooms and The Reserve
This review reflects a stay in a Grand Reserve Pool Villa, in The Reserve, Santiburi's more contemporary section: gated, private villas each with their own pool, close enough that you can step straight from the bedroom into the water.
It's a more modern take on the same Thai-inspired design found across the rest of the grounds. Like most of the resort's rooms, it's built for 2 adults and 2 children.
Cots and extra beds are available on request.

Elsewhere on the property, rooms range from Duplex Suites through Garden, Pool and Beachfront Villas, most with a private pool or plunge pool option and the same 2-adult, 2-child capacity.
Families after more space have two-bedroom choices too, each sleeping up to 4 adults and 2 children:
- a Two Bedroom Duplex Suite, where a staircase leads up to the parents' bedroom, which can be tricky with little kids
- two-bedroom beachfront villas with either a jacuzzi or a private pool with direct beach access
Location
Santiburi sits in Maenam, on the north coast, a good base for exploring without being in the middle of everything. For more on the area, see is Maenam good for families and couples?
Turn left and you're heading toward the busier north and east. Fisherman's Village is around 15 minutes by car, with Chaweng further on.
Turn right and you reach the quieter west coast.
Good to know
Overall, this is a calm, spacious, well-run resort with plenty for both parents and kids to do.
