Which Koh Samui restaurants are worth it for a special occasion?

Tree Tops restaurant, Chaweng
Quick answer

Three restaurants worth it for a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon, or any other special occasion. Tree Tops for dinner up in the trees with personal touches. Kohpac for a jungle-set dinner unlike anywhere else on the island. Dining on the Rocks for a dinner built around the view.

These three aren't casual dinners, they're the kind of experience worth building an evening around.

Which restaurant has the most personal touches?

Tree Tops makes the occasion feel considered rather than simply expensive. It's also where Anantara Lawana appears in The White Lotus Season 3, worth a look at where else it was filmed on the island if that's part of the appeal.

Which restaurant feels like nowhere else on the island?

Kohpac puts dinner in a jungle setting unlike anything else on the island.

Where can you dine with a view over the water?

Dining on the Rocks earns its reputation through the setting as much as the food.

These are our top picks, all personally eaten at. Whatever the occasion, book ahead rather than turning up on the night.

Tree Tops, Chaweng

Tree Tops

Chaweng
Best for personal touches and a treehouse setting · Tasting menu

Tree Tops is an elevated treehouse restaurant at Anantara Lawana in north Chaweng, reached along wooden walkways after a welcome drink at the bar. It's a tasting menu, come with an empty stomach. Menus have arrived printed with guests' names carved into the wood, theirs to take home, along with a small bottle of Yadom. We don't know if that's a standing feature or a one-off, but the personal touches were appreciated. Anantara Lawana is also a filming location for The White Lotus Season 3.

Kohpac, Bangrak

Kohpac

Bangrak
Best for a jungle-set dinner, unlike anywhere else on the island · Tapas Thu, 10-course tasting menu Fri & Sat

Kohpac puts dinner in a jungle setting, bamboo and fairy lights lead into candlelit, communal dining under the stars, despite being close to the main areas. It's a properly unique experience for the island. Thursday is a tapas night, the 10-course tasting menu runs Friday and Saturday, reservation only, come with an empty stomach. It's gaining popularity too, worth booking ahead.

Dining on the Rocks, Choeng Mon

Dining on the Rocks

Choeng Mon
Best for the view and full-ceremony service · Tasting menu with wine flight

Dining on the Rocks, at Six Senses Samui, starts at reception with a golf buggy ride down to the restaurant, a small ritual that builds anticipation before you've even sat down. Welcome drinks and sunset come first, at the bar area, before you're taken across to the dining platform itself, just a handful of tables, with an outstanding view over the water. It's a tasting menu, with the option to add a wine flight to match.
