Where should couples stay in Choeng Mon?

Choeng Mon Beach
Quick answer

Choeng Mon has four genuinely exceptional stays for couples: Cape Fahn for an entire private island, Sala Samui for Two MICHELIN Keys and a strong honeymoon programme, Kimpton Kitalay for boutique design from a name you trust, and Garrya Tongsai Bay for a private bay entirely to yourselves.

Choeng Mon is one of Koh Samui's quieter, more upscale corners, and it's home to some genuinely exceptional stays for couples, from a private island to a bay entirely of your own.

Cape Fahn Hotel

Cape Fahn takes privacy to its logical extreme, an entire private island just off Choeng Mon Beach, 22 villas each with an eight-metre pool, and a restaurant led by David Thompson, the chef behind Michelin-starred Nahm.

Every villa has its own eight-metre private pool. Long Dtai, the resort's signature restaurant, is helmed by David Thompson, the chef behind Michelin-starred Nahm, with a menu built around southern Thai cooking and seafood.

Villas

22 private villas, each with its own eight-metre pool, opened in 2018 and a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Part of the Cape and Kantary Hotels group.

Dining

Long Dtai, led by chef David Thompson, focuses on southern Thai cooking and seafood in a fine-dining setting. Hue offers a more relaxed mix of Thai and international dishes.

Island & Facilities

The whole hotel sits on Koh Fahn, a small private island. Cape Spa for treatments, plus yoga, traditional Thai dancing, Muay Thai, snorkelling, and kayaking on the private beach.

Location

300 metres off Choeng Mon Beach, walkable at low tide, otherwise a short boat or truck shuttle. Around 10 minutes from the airport.

Why It Works (And The Catch)

Good for: Total privacy on your own private island, with genuinely excellent, chef-led dining.

Worth knowing: Getting on and off the island depends on the tide or a shuttle, it's not quite as instantly walkable as staying on the main island.

Sala Samui Choeng Mon Beach Resort

Sala Samui holds Two MICHELIN Keys, a genuinely rare distinction, and puts a private pool in most of its 69 suites and villas, right on Choeng Mon Beach.

Budget: HighBeach FrontPoolSuites

Sala Samui Choeng Mon Beach Resort holds Two MICHELIN Keys, one of only a handful of hotels in Thailand to carry the distinction. It sits on the far end of Choeng Mon beach, quiet and walkable rather than in the thick of it, with 53 of its 69 suites and villas having their own private pool. Two oceanfront pools include one reserved for adults only, a detail that makes a real difference if part of your group wants a break without anyone needing to leave.

The Rooms, Villas & Beachfront Setting

69 rooms and villas in total, 53 with their own private pool, hidden behind rustic wooden doors and white walls. Directly beachfront with soft sand and calm waters, sleek and minimal, centred around indoor-outdoor living.

Michelin Recognition

Awarded Two MICHELIN Keys by the MICHELIN Guide Thailand.

The Dual-Pool Setup & Breakfast Highlight

Two oceanfront pools, one open to everyone, one adults-only, right where the sea meets the sand. Sala Restaurant, the resort's all-day dining venue, overlooks the beach and serves an unhurried breakfast (running late until 11:00 AM), a curated a-la-carte menu alongside a high-end buffet.

Honeymoon Touches

Guests staying four nights or more are treated to flowers, chocolate, sparkling wine, and a couple's massage on arrival.

Why It Works (And The Catch)

Good for: A genuinely Michelin-recognised stay, a private pool in most rooms, and a quiet corner of Choeng Mon.

Worth knowing: At 69 rooms, it's larger than some of the more intimate options nearby, so don't expect total seclusion.

Kimpton Kitalay Samui by IHG

Kimpton Kitalay proves a big hotel group can still feel intimate. It's part of IHG, but the design is considered and boutique in feel rather than following the usual resort formula.

Kimpton Kitalay is part of IHG, but it doesn't read like a chain hotel. The design is considered and boutique in feel, laid out like a small seaside village rather than a standard resort block, with a genuinely more luxurious edge throughout. It sits slightly tucked away from the busier stretch of Choeng Mon, and there's a kids' club on site if you're travelling with family.

Rooms

138 rooms, suites, and villas laid out like a small seaside village. The Two Bedroom Family Suites or Essential Family Rooms give you room to spread out without losing the boutique feel, open-plan layouts, freestanding tubs, big private terraces. If you want to push the boat out, the oceanfront pool villas sit right on the sand.

Kids' club and facilities

There's a proper kids' club on site plus a dedicated children's water play area, both worth knowing given how adult the rest of the property reads in its styling. It's a rare combination: you get a genuinely chic stay, and your kids still get proper, active entertainment.

Food

This is a hotel that takes its food seriously rather than treating it as an afterthought. Fish House is the standout, beachfront, Michelin Guide-recognised, with family-friendly plates alongside the seafood towers. Boho Thai Lifestyle Café covers all-day Thai and western comfort food, and HOM Baking Company is worth an early trip for pastries.

Good to know

It sits slightly apart from the busier stretch of Choeng Mon. If you want distance and quiet, that works in your favour. If you want to walk straight out into restaurants and shops, it'll feel a little removed.
